Community Food Garden Program

About the BVC Community Food Garden Program

A component of the long-running and popular Brown Bag Buddies summer food program, the BVC Community Food Garden Program aims to bring healthy food choices to children in low-income areas. The purpose of the BVC Community Food Garden program is to address childhood hunger by expanding access to fresh produce and promoting healthy eating.

Objective

The BVC will install community food gardens at locations that serve primarily low-income children and families.

When Community Gardening Will Take Place

The BVC will install gardens in the spring of each year. BVC member corporations are encouraged to provide continued volunteer labor and technical assistance throughout the growing season.

Get involved - be a sponsor!

The gardens rely on the support of lots of partners, and your company can help!

Other ways you can help:

  • Volunteers needed: Volunteers are needed in the spring to install the gardens and throughout the growing season to tend the gardens.
  • In-kind donations needed: salad spinner, fruit or nut trees, compost bins, hoses and sprinklers, rain barrels, gravel, materials for raised beds such as stone or treated lumber, etc.
