The BVC's stated purpose is "to significantly impact the lives of children and families - specifically in the areas of hunger, health, and education - by connecting area businesses with non-profit organizations to direct resources to those in need." One way in which the BVC upholds this purpose is through it's three annual "Strategic Initiative" campaigns: Books in a Bag, Brown Bag Buddies, and Tools for School.

BVC members also bring one-day volunteer project proposals to the group. Recent projects include helping to build a new community playground and serving meals to persons experiencing homelessness.
